We are coming to the end of our Moroccan trip. You can read my earlier posts from the road about getting to Morocco, visiting Marrakech, and the road to Tafraoute.
After having a nice, relaxing evening in Tafraoute where we restocked our supplies, enjoyed real showers, and had a fun dinner in a Berber tent, we got on the road early.
From Tafraoute, we drove mostly on main roads through Agadir and to the beach. At the beach, we found a nice little restaurant to have a relaxing lunch at. After lunch, we headed to the beach for a fun drive along the ocean in the sand!

After our beach drive, we headed back inland for Essaouira via a long highway drive. We arrived at our campsite for the night around 8:30 and ate a late dinner at the campsite restaurant before heading to bed.
In the morning, we headed into town for breakfast and managed to find a really delicious crepe stand. Unfortunately, just as we found the crepe stand, the skies opened up and it started pouring. We all stood under the awnings on the side of the road to take shelter while we enjoyed our crepes.
Once we’d finished eating, we made a mad dash for the cars and hit the road. We drove through Casablanca and on to Volubilis. We pulled into camp just in time to see the beautiful sunset through a grove of olive trees. After a relaxing dinner in camp, we all turned in early.

We were up and ready to head to the Roman ruins of Volubilis by 9 in the morning. It was a quick 10 minute drive to the ruins and we spent about an hour wandering around the ancient city remains. It was really cool to see! In some was it was better than Pompeii because it wasn’t as crowded and you could really get in close to the ruins.

After we finished up at Volubilis, it was a leisurely drive through the Rif mountains to Chefchauoen. We stayed at a hotel on the hill up above the city since we planned to hit the road early in the morning. After freshening up, we all headed down the hill into the city.

Chefchauoen was really neat! Almost all the walls were painted blue and we wandered around the maze of souks (maybe getting a little lost) until we came out in an old town square, where we ate dinner. After dinner, we did one final shopping session for souvenirs before heading back to our hotel for a good night’s sleep to rest up for the ferry Friday morning.
